“Mr. Badey, I want to go to McDonald’s.”
We have a tradition where we take our clients to McDonald's whenever we win a million dollars or more. The tradition started in 1992. We had just won $1.5 million for our seriously injured client; a big win. As we packed up our trial materials in the courtroom, our corporate opponents and their lawyers were loudly debating which super fancy restaurant they would meet at to have filet mignon and martinis after court. So we loudly decided that we'd all celebrate at Mickey D's instead.
I remember one case where a young man had a serious neck injury and after the jury went out to deliberate, the insurance company increased their offer from $450,000 to $850,000. I asked my client what he wanted to do, and he said, "Mr. Badey, I want to go to McDonald's." So we let the jury decide and they delivered a $2.76 million dollar verdict. That time, we super-sized our extra value meals.
